Not quite as exciting as OS 6, but Desktop Manager 6 has just launched in Beta. Presentation and ease of use have greatly improved. Invites will gradually be sent to members of the beta zone as of today. Screenshots below.

New Camera Controls and Supported Scene Modes

With BlackBerry 6, RIM have focused on perfecting the point and shoot experience. Users can capture photos quicker and better than ever before with a variety of new features in BlackBerry 6. New onscreen controls means there is no need to hunt through menus for your favorite options. You will be able to access and review camera pictures, set popular options and pick from a variety of scene modes, all directly from the camera screen. You will also be able to capture video using the video camera application on the device.

Streaming, Sharing and Searching for Videos

Searching through videos on your BlackBerry smartphone has been made easier in BlackBerry 6 with the new thumbnail view. There will also be more ways to view videos in BlackBerry 6. You will be able to opt to play video in various sizes (Original, Fit to Screen, Full Screen), plus instantly share your videos with the world using the new integrated YouTube® video uploader. Or perhaps you want to watch some online videos – no problem! The new universal search feature in BlackBerry 6 has been designed to enable you to search Internet video sites such as YouTube, and to enjoy higher quality YouTube videos when using Wi-Fi.

New BlackBerry Webkit Browser

Well we finally get to see the new Webkit browser for the BlackBerry6 OS. This is being demonstrated on the upcoming BlackBerry 9800 (Slider).

I'd also like to point out that in this video it has been noted that the unit does not drop signal when the users hand is holding onto certain parts of the phone, which is strange considering what Steve Jobs claimed this week.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plWOkI_Urwo" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plWOkI_Urwo</a>

All has been quiet for a while on the topic of BlackBerry 6. Just a few leaked videos and handsets so far. RIM have now released this short teaser video showing some of the great new features and the incredible new look to the BlackBerry Operating System.

Its not all just cosmetic either. Yes it does look sleek and shiny but a lot more has gone on behind the scenes with BlackBerry 6. Much of this we are still waiting to find out about, but for now the new features are looking very promising.

New Features shown in this video:
  • Universal Search
  • Enhanced Media Interface
  • Social Feeds
  • Updated BlackBerry Messenger
  • Simultaneous Postings
  • RSS Reader
  • Richer Web Browser (WebKit)
  • Pinching and Zooming (Similar to iPhone and HTC)

BlackBerry 6 is something that GeekBerry is following very closely, as we are very excited about it. We have all watched other OS's grow over the past few years and gradually leaving BlackBerry OS behind in the dirt. Well not for much longer, BlackBerry OS is getting a much needed (some might say 'overdue') upgrade.

Rumours are suggesting we may see this new OS on handsets as early as October of this year.

Thanks to Ajv2809 from GeekBerry for originally posting this on our forums.
